The keypad is the device normally installed near an entrance or exit of your home or business where you can arm and disarm the system quickly upon entering the premises. By using the numerical code you have selected you can arm or activate the system. Some companies also recommend programming your system with a panic or duress code different from your regular code. This duress code can be used in life threatening situations to notify authorities of an attack or emergency.
Most newer keypads have an illuminated display to show the status of the security system. If a door or window remains open, a sensor will detect that opening and a display on the keypad will tell you which door or window you need to check before arming the system. This is important because you cannot arm the system if a door or window remains open and a sensor is detecting that opening.
Your entry door or the door closest to your keypad, is programmed with an entry delay. This gives you extra time to get to the keypad and enter your code before the system sends an alarm. Any other doors, along with your windows and motion detectors, will immediately initiate an alarm if they are triggered. It is important for to have the entry delay to avoid accidentally triggering the alarm.

Door and window contacts are switches that can indicate the opening or closing of a door or window. The switch is mounted to a door or window and is held closed by a magnet attached to the frame. When the door or window moves away from the magnet, the switch opens which is sensed or picked up by the alarm control panel. More about that later. Door contacts should be installed on every ground level, exterior door. Ideally, window contacts should also be installed on all ground level windows unless it is determined by your professional security advisor that glass break or motion sensors are appropriate for that location.

If you recently switched your telephone provider or are planning to you must test your alarm system immediately. When using Fios as your provider you must dial an area code to call within your own area code. Some of the alarm panels need to be programmed to support this feature and the wont work properly if not done so. If your planning on having this done or had it done recently give your alarm company a call to verify that this wont be an issue for you.

Many of our customers call and ask how to replace the alarm panel battery that is located in the control box. Usually the main battery is 12 volts and 7 or 4 amphrs. This is what keeps your alarm system up and running in case of a power outage. Depending on how many devices that are attached to the alarm panel is how long the battery will last when you lose power. A device is considered a keypad, motion detectors, sirens, Glass detectors, smoke detectors, Carbonmonoxide detectors, and other items that the alarm panel needs to power. The best way to replace the battery is to open up the main control panels door and look for the lage rectangular item that has a voltage reading on it (usually 12 volts). Ther is a red a black wire attached to the battery.

While the company continues to expand its product offering, they are also broadening its app features. The company just announcedSonos System Software 3.6, an update that promises more control and more options for your Sonos system.
It’s available now for iOS devices, as well as Android tablets and smartphones—yes, the Android support is also new.
Those new enhancements include music library management, alarms, and even Twittersupport. It also boasts improved Spotify integration, as well as the addition of free ad-supported Slacker Radio. Users can also upgrade to the ad-free Slacker Radio Plus or Slacker Premium Radio for $3.99 and $9.99 per month, respectively.
Another new feature is Sonos Labs. This is an area where customers can test out new music services before they are officially launched on Sonos. The company plans to add new services regularly, and also invites developers to become a Sonos Labs music partner.
Last, but certainly not least, the Sonos 3.6 software also adds in AAC+ codec support and the addition of Danish and Norwegian language support.
Be advised that the Sonos Controller is a free download. However, if you already have the iOS version, you don’t need to download it again. The update should be available right on your device, through the App Store.

When researching for an burglar and fire alarm installation company always ask for their local alarm license #. Most states require alarm companies to be licensed. Company's that are licensed must meet state requirements.
